The 21st century was a time of inter-planetary exploration. More importantly, the exploration and colonization of Mars. By the early 22nd century mankind had been established more then a dozen colonies on the red planet. The population grew in numbers in the tens of thousands. But as the planet became more self sufficient, so did the people. A separatist movement took hold of the colonies. The new government declared independence from Earth in 2116 AD. They quickly sought to militarize their colonies. Soon enough a grand force of warriors were trained. The "Martian Defense Troop (MDT's)" were put into action. Several thousand MDT's took up arms to secure the liberty of their world. After recieving the news of rebellion on Mars, the United Nations of Earth, or UNE, took it as an act of treason. The 1st inter-planetary war took place. But in the end... the UNE Marine Corps was not prepared to battle in the harsh environment of Mars. After eight months of fighting, the UNE forces retreated. The SRM was victorious, bringing forth a fierce rivalry with Earth which has lasted for centuries of years.
